Eco Makeup Madness

Anyone that knows me knows that I love makeup! I applaud girls who couldn’t care less and venture out into the world bare-faced. Personally, I love applying makeup and creating different looks depending on my mood.

7 months ago I decided it was time to stop supporting companies that include toxins in their cosmetics and started my makeup overhaul.

Most of the products that I owned had questionable ingredients like you wouldn’t believe, for example my trusted conventional mascara. I looked it up on Cosmetics Database, these were the results:

“Ingredients in this product are linked to:
Cancer
Developmental/reproductive toxicity
Restrictions & warnings
Allergies/immunotoxicity
Other concerns for ingredients used in this product:
Neurotoxicity, Endocrine disruption, Persistence and bioaccumulation, Organ system toxicity (non-reproductive), Multiple, additive exposure sources, Irritation (skin, eyes, or lungs), Enhanced skin absorption, Contamination concerns, Occupational hazards, Biochemical or cellular level changes”

Cover girl Lash Blast Mascara got a 7/10 on their hazard score (10 being the worst).

I quickly tossed my Cover Girl mascara.

The new mascara I decided to try was Physicians Formula Organic wear mascara. It was priced competitively, available everywhere and I was familiar with Physicians Formula and have used and loved their makeup in the past. Although most of their products do not hold up to my ‘healthy’ standard, this mascara looked promising.

The mascara itself is fantastic; I’ve been wearing it for 7 months now. It has performed well in temperature of 39 degrees Celsius with humidity, as well as in the fidget winter temperatures we endure. That is more than I can say for many brands of conventional  mascara.

A preliminary report on cosmetics database scored Physicians Formula Organic Wear Mascara a 2/10.  This number is a big improvement on the conventional 7/10 score.

In case you are not familiar with the dangers of many ingredients in beauty products please watch this short animated video for a better understanding:
