Considering entering our Trashfusion design contest, yet not quite sure what type of garment we’re looking for? This article is for you!

Last year we had all types of wearable art on the runway at our Trashfusion contest. One of the most creative designs we saw came from fashion illustrator and designer Danielle Meder.

When Danielle became aware of the contest she went to work on submitting an illustration and application.

Danielle’s illustration of her creation

Danielle ended up being chosen as a finalist to be featured in Ecofest Barrie’s Trashfusion Contest. She was then faced with the task of bringing her creation to life.

She began by making a pattern and a-line dress  from scratch with materials she already had. Then came the truly recycled part of her design, the plastic paillettes. She cut out, hole-punched and attached the paillettes, covering the entire dress. For the paillettes, she reused items such as food containers, old library cards, and metrocards, basically scouring what she already had that could be cleaned, cut and hole punched.

Danielle’s dress turned out to be both eco-friendly and beautiful, I hope this post provides inspiration to anyone considering entering the contest.

For more information on Danielle Meder, check out her website or get addicted to her blog. I encourage you to check her out as this design is just a small taste of her fabulous talent.
