Earth Hour, Will 60 Minutes Make A Difference?

You bet it will make a difference. This year Earth Hour is challenging you to commit.

As most of us are aware this Saturday from 8:30-9:30 lights across the world will be switched off to bring awareness to the global environmental issues that we are all facing.

Earth Hour started in 2007 as an Australian action that took a stand again climate change,  a year later 35 Countries and Territories were involved.  The movement continued to grow and in 2010 128 Countries and Territories made the pledge to flip the switch for sustainability.

This year, Earth Hour is taking it one step further with a New Years resolution style campaign, which encourages communities and individuals to go ‘beyond the hour’.  Their truly inspiring web page,, allows individuals to post a change they are planning to make.  They included facebook and other social media sharing, so that these ideas can be  talked about all over the web.

Also included in this page is a ‘do this’ button. You see a change you would like to make, click it, and you can share your commitment. The option to add pictures, videos or a story is also there, creating  a very personal yet global cause.

I am constantly making changes and trying to live a greener lifestyle.  This year I will concentrate on buying local as much as I can. That is my Earth Hour commitment.

What are you planning to commit to  this year for Earth Hour?

Remember, you can catch the Earth Hour Video on our Youtube Channel.
