Better to Barter

Once the snow starts to melt I can’t help but feel the need to cut the clutter in my house. This generally means looking at the things I have and deciding which  are important to me and add character to my home and which I can really do without  (example: baby bathtub I haven’t used in a year).
The sad part of cutting the cluttering for Spring is that so many perfectly useful items end up in the trash simply because they’re not right for the home they are in.

This year you (and your homeless household goods) are in luck!

As part of the City of Barrie Free Goods Exchange Day, Ecofest is hosting our first ever Freetrade and Barter area.

If you don’t feel like you can part with anything in your home, yet still want to be a part of this, remember to think outside the box. Bartering means that absolutely no money will exchange hands. Services, on the other hand, are a perfectly acceptable form of payment. If you are skilled as a hairstylist, mechanic, carpenter or baker, for example, you can exchange your services for goods as well!

Here is what is happening:

  • Space is free (10×10), however it is on a first come first served basis. Book now to ensure that you are a part of this amazing opportunity.
  • You are responsible to supply your own table, and tent if you can, to keep the elements at bay.
  • Set up is before 9am each day
  • You are responsible for the cleanup and removal of your own products. All products must comply with environmental standards.
  • No gas fired motors, no chemical producing or hazard waste producing items are allowed.
  • Barter Area is totally restricted to non-selling vendors. Saturday 8am to 8pm Sunday 9am to 5pm.
  • All unwanted items must be removed by the owner by the end of each day and the table must be attended by someone at all times.

When you pack up your unwanted items in the next few weeks, remember to store them until June 11th and 12th when they will get you a ticket to the Ecofest Free Trade and Barter area. To register or for more info check out the web page here.
